IC Socket allows you easily mount and remove an IC(integrated circuit) without damaging the IC through soldering.
DESCRIPTION
IC sockets also known as IC base are best used for preventing damage to the IC especially if you are a beginner in soldering or are just prototyping your circuit.
They are also very useful while testing prototypes, in case something goes wrong with the chip, one can quickly swap and replace the IC.
HOW TO USE IC SOCKETS?
IC sockets are often soldered into a PCB or a protoboard. The IC sockets usually have same pin size and spacing as the IC hence fitting perfectly into the socket. IC sockets are not recommended for use in solderless breadboard as the pins are not long enough.
This 8 pin DIP socket is ideal for use with ICs that have 8 pins (2×4) and have a spacing of 2.54mm
