IC Socket allows you easily mount and pull out an IC (integrated circuit) without damaging the IC by soldering it permanently on a PCB or protoboard.
DESCRIPTION
IC sockets also known as IC base are best used for preventing damage to the IC especially if you are a beginner in soldering or are just prototyping your circuit.
They are also perfect and useful while testing prototypes incase something goes wrong with the chip you can quickly swap it.
HOW TO USE IC SOCKETS?
IC sockets are often soldered into a PCB or a protoboard. The IC sockets usually have same pin size and spacing as the IC hence fitting perfectly into the socket. IC sockets are not recommended for use in solderless breadboard as the pins are not long enough.
This 40 pin DIP socket is ideal for use with ICs that have 40 pins (2×20) and have a spacing of 2.54mm
